Event Type

We are fortunate to live in this charming, caring, and creative community. For some of our community members, however, having the necessities of life presents a huge challenge. Although many people in the area support the Mid-Ohio Valley food pantries, the need is often greater than the supply.
The Empty Bowls Luncheon concept was begun in Michigan in 1990-91 by an art teacher and other community members as a pleasurable means by which the citizens of the area can gather to eat a deliciously simple meal (for us it is homemade soups, bread, and freshly- baked cookies) while donating money to supply food to the pantries. For only a $15.00 donation ($10.00 for a child 12 and under), each attendee will receive lunch and a unique bowl made by an area student, artist, or hobbyist.
Caroline Putnam, who started our local program in 2001, would be heartened to observe the community members, churches, colleges, and The Marietta Community Foundation working together to eradicate food insecurity, the state of being without reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious food.
Please attend and assist us in publicizing this year’s event.
