Sadie Johnson is a multi-talented musician from Indianapolis. Her musical journey began when she was just six years old and discovered her passion for music, particularly the guitar. At the age of 13, she was inspired by Eric Clapton’s soulful guitar playing and began exploring a wide range of genres, from folk to funk and beyond. This led Sadie and her older sister Samantha to form the Sad Sam Blues Jam, a musical project that toured locally and nationally from 2011 to 2015 in local venues and festival stages.
After graduating high school early, Sadie embarked on an international tour with Ruf Records Blues Caravan: Girls With Guitars in 2015. The experience broadened her musical horizons and solidified her commitment to pursuing a career in music. She furthered her education by enrolling at Marietta College in Marietta, OH where she was recruited to assist in developing a music therapy program and became an instrumental force in the process. She graduated in the inaugural music therapy class and successfully completed her internship at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, IN. This led to her becoming a board-certified music therapist in October 2022
Sadie is deeply passionate about using music to help others and represents Indiana for Blue Star Connection, a non-profit organization that provides musical instruments to children and adults facing illness, disabilities, or challenges. Her dedication to this cause was exemplified when she headed the Blue Star Connection 2016 Super Duper Guitar Drive, raising $10,000 and distributing nearly 100 electric guitars to music therapists nationwide. Additionally, Sadie’s love for making a difference through music is evident in her recent role as the Music Director for the Prism Project, a performing arts camp catering to children with disabilities.
A testament to her talent and dedication, Sadie is set to release her new EP, “Natural Distractions,” in late summer 2023. She has graced the stage at various events, including Blues from the Top- Future of the Blues Stage 2012 and the International Blues Challenge in 2013 and 2014, where she showcased her musical prowess. Additionally, she has shared the stage as a guest artist with Blues Traveler at the Chicago House of Blues and Maryville, TN. Furthermore, she has opened for prominent artists such as Clint Black, Blue Oyster Cult, and Delbert McClinton at the Peoples Bank Theatre. Her performances have left a lasting impression on audiences.
Since settling in Indianapolis in 2021, Sadie has made a name for herself in the local music scene. Whether performing solo or with her full band, Sadie’s performances are captivating. She combines soulful vocals, percussive guitar skills, and an infectious energy that leaves audiences spellbound. Sadie’s musical journey is truly inspiring. Her unwavering passion for music and her commitment to using it as a force for good is evident in everything she does.
