Join us as we explore the lives of several multiracial individuals born before the Civil War who are buried in Marietta’s most historic cemetery. Experience the stories of triumph and tragedy, including: the original Adena culture who built Conus mound in which some are still interred; “Aunt Lydia” Pervis, St. Clair Muncey, and George Creel who were born enslaved, but lived free in Marietta; steamboat porter Charles Butler who was a casualty of sidewheeler Buckeye Belle explosion in Beverly; Edward Giles who was murdered following his Civil War service by his former overseer in Missouri; and widely renowned Marietta cook Daphne Squires.

Cemetery Tour Tips:

· Tours last up to one hour and 15 minutes
· Walking takes place across uneven ground and between headstones
· You’ll be standing at some locations for around 10 – 15 minutes
· Check the weather and dress accordingly
· Bringing water, walking sticks, or easily carried folding chairs is encouraged
· When you arrive at the cemetery, if you already have a reservation or tickets check-in with the Castle team member with a clipboard.
· Unless otherwise noted, tickets will continue to be sold onsite. Paying for your admission with exact change is appreciated.
