The Buffington Island Battlefield Preservation Foundation, Cadot-Blessing Camp #126 Sons of Union Veterans, and the Civil War Round Table of the Mid-Ohio Valley will host the 2026 Annual Battle of Buffington Island Commemoration and a historical marker dedication ceremony to honor the role of the Marietta Militia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2026, at the Buffington Island Battlefield Memorial Park, 56797 SR-124, Portland, Ohio 45770. The event will feature the annual 1863 battle commemoration, period music, presentations by historians on the significance of the battle and the role of the Marietta Militia, and a cannon salute followed by a community picnic.
