Peoples Bank Theatre

I’ve lived in Marietta, Ohio, for almost my entire life (which is only 21 years), and I have yet to visit this attraction, simply because I have never heard of it. Many people are caught up in the”state of the art” movie theaters nowadays, and most fail to realize there’s the Peoples Bank Theatre on Putnam Street! Originally built in 1911, but claimed by fire in 1917, this theater was restored two years later and is now in great shape. This huge theater (which seats over 600 people) used to be the place where silent movies were shown. In addition to showing silent movies, the theater entertained with Broadway plays, music concerts, and magical acts. Did you know people like Boris Karloff, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart, Judy Garland, Dick Van Patten, Tex Ritter, Minnie Pearl, Kitty Wells, Ernest Tubb, and Randy Travis performed here before? Campus Martius Museum

If you are a history buff and would love to know what Marietta, Ohio, was like before you existed, well this is the place to visit! This three story building features exhibits focusing on the Northwest Territory and its first settlement. You can see artifacts from Ohio’s first peoples as you view Adena and Hopewell authentic clothing, tools and much more, and also original maps and surveys made by Rufus Putnam, who was a colonial military officer during the French and Indian War. Putnam remains buried at Mound Cemetery right here in Marietta, Ohio. The featured item in the museum is Rufus Putnam’s actual house, which underwent restoration to maintain quality.
