Monday, September 18, 2023 – 6pm to 8pm
Join us as we recreate an iconic meal from David McCullough’s The Pioneers. In the book, Manasseh Cutler describes an elegant banquet held at “the president’s house” by invitation of Thomas Jefferson. Taste our interpretation of an iconic Jeffersonian meal while learning about Manasseh and his role in the journey toward the Northwest Ordinance from expert local historian, Bill Reynolds.
The menu reflects elements of Manasseh’s description of his meal at the White House. Additional inspiration was taken from Jefferson’s iconic culinary style. During his presidency and at home in Monticello, Jefferson treated guests to French influenced cuisine, but featured locally cultivated ingredients.
