DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, Caleb Davis will examine the roles and r
 elationships between African Americans and White settlers in Southeastern 
 Ohio. Drawing on evidence from diary entries corroborated by census and ta
 x records\, the talk will explore how individuals from both communities wi
 ll have worked together to establish successful networks within the Underg
 round Railroad—benefiting not only themselves but many others seeking fr
 eedom. The focus will center on Washington County\, with particular attent
 ion to Belpre\, Marietta\, Vincent\, and Waterford\, as well as Wood Count
 y\, including areas of Parkersburg. Davis will highlight the lives of well
 -known abolitionists such as James Lawton\, Edmund Dana\, and Jonathan Sto
 ne\, alongside formerly enslaved and free Black men including Harry Bartle
 tt and Micajah Phillips\, emphasizing the cooperative efforts that will ha
 ve made the Underground Railroad in this region possible.\n\nReservations
