DESCRIPTION:This presentation explores the Causes\, Nations\, Leadership\, 
 Preparedness\, Weaponry\, Major Engagements and Conclusion of the Spanish 
 American War. Professor Emeritus Robert Mergel and Major Edward Sachs port
 ray Lt. Colonel Theodore Roosevelt and Colonel Leonard Wood of the 1 st US
  Volunteer Cavalry in period uniform. The presentation includes an MS Powe
 rPoint media depiction of the Administration of Spain and the United State
 s prior to hostilities\, the sinking of the US Battleship Maine\, prepared
 ness and mobilization of the warring nations\, the army and naval commande
 rs and forces and a description of the major engagements and the terms of 
 the Peace Agreement. Interspersed with the MS PowerPoint presentation is a
  display of the weaponry and accoutrements of the combatants.\n\nAfter thi
 rty years of teaching and coordinating Civil Engineering Technology\, Robe
 rt (Bob) Mergel retired from Columbus State Community College in 2012 and 
 was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus. In 2018 he retired as a senio
 r lecturer at the Ohio State University College of Engineering where he ta
 ught undergraduate civil engineering and surveying courses. He holds a Bac
 helor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Ohio State Universit
 y (1972)\, Master of Education Degree from the Ohio University (1990) and 
 a Master of Science Degree in Geodetic Science and Surveying from the Ohio
  State University (2002). From 2006 to present\, he has made first person 
 and third person presentations on subjects on Colonial and Early American 
 Surveying\, American Civil War Engineering and Mapping\, The Spanish-Ameri
 can War\, Colonel Theodore Roosevelt and World War II at numerous local an
 d national venues including the Champagne Air Museum\, Central Ohio Milita
 ry Museum\, Central Ohio Technical College Life Long Learning\, Surveyors 
 Historical Society\, Ohio History Connection\, National Veterans Memorial 
 and Museum\, Bents Old Fort (National Park Service)\, United States Army C
 orps of Engineers at Fort Leonard Wood\, and the United States Library of
