DESCRIPTION:Ohio has a remarkably long history of women running for public 
 office and was at the forefront of women's representation a century ago. H
 owever\, today\, the state lags behind the rest of the nation. In addition
  to sharing the compelling stories of the state’s diverse trailblazers\,
  Dr. Palmer will explore how Ohio's unique and complex electoral environme
 nt plays a significant role in determining the success of women candidates
 .\n\nDr. Barbara Palmer was professor of American politics in the Departme
 nt of Politics &amp\; Global Citizenship at Baldwin Wallace University\, n
 ear Cleveland\, Ohio. She was the creator and Executive Director of the Ce
 nter for Women &amp\; Politics of Ohio and is an expert on women running f
 or public office. Throughout her 30-year career\, collaborating with non-p
 rofit organizations\, Dr. Palmer has worked with over 500 young women acro
 ss the nation\, helping inspire them to get involved in politics. Now semi
 -retired\, she is proud to continue this work and share the stories of wom
 en we all need to know about.\n\nThis event is sponsored by the Washington
