 tioned her husband John Adams that when America’s founders declared thei
 r independence and created a new code of laws\, they should “remember th
 e ladies.” This tour will detail the stories of several notable Marietta
  women and their significant legacy that until now has largely been hidden
  or overlooked. Hear the stories of: Lydia (Moulton) McKowan\, a highly sk
 illed silver and goldsmith who plied her trade here on the frontier in 178
 9\; Bathsheba (Rouse) Green\, the first female school teacher in the North
 west Territory\; Betty Washington (Lewis) Lovell\, the grandniece of Georg
 e Washington who was labeled the “ministering angel in the sick-rooms”
  of Marietta and a dedicated supporter of the needy of our community\; Dap
 hne Squires\, a free Black woman who owned a house next to the cemetery an
 d was widely regarded by many in the 19th century as Marietta’s best coo
 k\; Elizabeth (Gross) Cisler\, a business entrepreneur and the widowed pro
 prietor of the historic St. Cloud Hotel\; and Dr. Bertlyn Bosley\, a world
 -renowned nutritionist and owner of The Castle into the 1980s\; and more.\
