DESCRIPTION:250th Anniversary of the United States Navy\n&nbsp\;\n\nThe pu
 blic is invited to attend &amp\; celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the f
 ounding of the United States Navy. Join us as Navy Veterans\, historians\,
  students\, and descendants of Patriots commemorate 250 years of Naval ser
 vice to our Nation. A special focus will be on local Patriots who served!\
 n\n&nbsp\;\n10am - October 13\, 2025\nCampus of the Veritas Classical Acad
 emy\n115 Victory Place\, Marietta Ohio 45750\n&nbsp\;\n\nOn October 13\, 1
 775\, the Second Continental Congress passed a Resolution to purchase and 
 fit out two vessels as warships for service in the Revolution. In addition
 \, a Marine Committee consisting of John Adams\, Silas Deane\, and John La
 ngdon was formed to oversee naval affairs. This date is regarded as the bi
 rth date of the U.S. Navy.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nOn June 12\, 1775\, just two mont
 hs after the Revolutionary War erupted at the Battles of Lexington and Con
 cord\, the Rhode Island Assembly created the Rhode Island Navy\, the first
  American Navy of the Revolution. Three days later\, on June 15th\, future
  Marietta resident and Rhode Island Commodore Abraham Whipple fired on the
  British sloop HMS Diana and took her as a prize. This became the first 
 naval engagement of the Revolutionary War.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nThe Parkersburg H
 igh School Navy Junior ROTC and Marietta Chapter SAR Color Guard units wil
 l open this important celebration followed by a Navy musical presentation 
 by the Veritas students.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nThe program is sponsored by the Mar
 ietta Chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the
  American Revolution.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nNote: The program will be held in the 
 Veritas Gym. Handicap parking and entry is available next to the parking l
 ot. Refreshments will be served and a food truck will be available for tho
