The Castle, in partnership with The Cook’s Shop of downtown Marietta, will present “Beyond Corned Beef and Cabbage: A Traditional Irish Meal,” a virtual food history cooking class, on Monday, March 15 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
Co-presenters Dagmar Kupsche, owner of the Cook’s Shop, and Kyle Yoho, Education Director at The Castle, will prepare a traditional Irish meal and talk about the history of Irish food culture. According to Kyle Yoho, “Irish immigrants within our local region as well as across the US largely assimilated their foodways nearly immediately upon arrival. With this class, we’ll take a look at why that is and look beyond dishes like corned-beef-and-cabbage to learn about Irish-American cuisine.” Recipes will be included for all the menu items being prepared with ingredient suggestions for an authentic Irish taste. Dagmar and Kyle will be cooking live during the program and invite everyone to watch, to cook some of the items along with them, or to follow along for the whole menu to create a delicious Irish supper. The make-at-home menu includes Coddled Pork with Cider, Colcannon, and Apple Cake.
