Initially built as a covered railroad bridge in 1856, the Historic Harmar Bridge is the oldest swinging railroad bridge in the country and the only one of its kind still in operation today. Though it has endured many changes, the Harmar Bridge has stood strong in the Harmar Village of Marietta, Ohio. In January of 2020, the Historic Harmar Bridge Company made the decision to close the transformed pedestrian foot bridge for safety purposes. It is our mission to renovate, restore and reopen the bridge as a multipurpose transporation artery connecting Downtown Marietta to the Historic Harmar District. We host the the 3 day long Harmar Days Festival annually, the last weekend in July. We offer food, live music, beer garden, craft vendors, a car show and much, much more. There is also a silent auction along with a large raffle. All proceeds go towards this cause. saveharmarbridge.com
