Washington County 4-H'ers are hosting Japanese youth this month through the Ohio 4-H/Labo International Exchange Program. Three 4-H Families are hosting youth from July 24 through August 19.
Valley Gem Riverboat Cruises

The Valley Gem will open for 90 minute Sightseeing cruises Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays thru August 31. Cruises will depart at 2:30. New for 2008, the Gem will offer Free Popcorn Fridays departing at 4pm and returning at 5pm. The Friday ticket price includes a beverage and popcorn. Monday Morning Muffin cruises depart at 10:30am and return at 11:30am thru August 18. The cost is $11 for adults, $10 for seniors, $9 for groups of 20 or more paying as one, and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Hervida 4-H Camp Shipwrecked on Hervida Island!!

In 2008, the OSU Extension Washington County 4-H camping program at Camp Hervida will be open to 4-H'ers AND non-4-H’ers. The deadline for registering has been extended because there is still room in the camps and time to sign up.
Preliminary Construction Bids for Two Colony Theatre Restoration Projects Awarded

The Hippodrome/Colony Historical Theatre Association (HCHTA) recently awarded bids for two interior restoration projects to Tiffin Scenic Studios and Silverheels, Incorporated.

Colony Theatre Songwriter Festival Announces Schedules for Contestants, Showcase and Free Workshop on June 7

Todd Burge of Songwriternight.com has announced the schedule of events taking place at The Galley Restaurant, 203 Second Street, Marietta. Free events at The Galley are a part of the June 7 Colony Theatre Songwriter Festival featuring an 8 pm performance by Jason Wilber at the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theatre. Wilber has played lead guitar for notable folk, rock and country artists including John Prine, Hal Ketchum, Greg Brow, Iris DeMent, Todd Snider, Greg Trooper, Carrie Newcom and Tim Grimm. Wilber’s work with John Prine includes two Grammy-nominated albums. Proceeds of the concert will benefit the Colony Theatre restoration project.
Anderson Hancock Planetarium - Marietta College

The Anderson Hancock Planetarium at Marietta College will open in the Spring 2009 semester.
The planetarium, which will be an addition to the south side of Selby Hall, will encompass a star theater, lobby, light vestibule, display space, restrooms, and offices. The star theater will seat 75-88 in a 40-foot diameter dome. Computer-controlled LED lighting and surround sound will complement the state-of-the-art hybrid projection system.

In the November issue of Ohio Magazine, Marietta has been recognized as one of five BEST hometowns in the publication's first annual Best Ohio's Best Hometowns issue.
Ohio Magazine editors selected Marietta because of its small-town charm, community spirit, historical significance and business development.
Marietta is Ohio's oldest settlement. It sits in the picturesque southeastern quadrant of the state at the intersection of the Muskingum and Ohio Rivers. Living in Marietta, says one local business owner, means choosing "rush minute" over "rush hour."
