Colony Theatre Songwriter Festival Announces Schedules for Contestants, Showcase and Free Workshop on June 7

Free events at The Galley are a part of the June 7 Colony Theatre Songwriter Festival featuring an 8 pm performance by Jason Wilber at the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theatre. Wilber has played lead guitar for notable folk, rock and country artists including John Prine, Hal Ketchum, Greg Brow, Iris DeMent, Todd Snider, Greg Trooper, Carrie New com and Tim Grimm. Wilber’s work with John Prine includes two Grammy-nominated albums. Proceeds of the concert will benefit the Colony Theatre restoration project.

The Songwriter Contest from 10 am to 1 pm has a great lineup of local talent competing to perform as one of two opening acts for the Jason Wilber concert. Those competing are Joseph Henry, Brad Yoder, Marty Davis, Steve Zarate, Kathleen Coffee, Chase Brady, Bobby Kirl, Robert Chase, Michael Strasse, Andy Tuck, Vic Fitzsimmons, Neil Coey, Mike Sheppard, Michael Beardmore, Aaron Whited, Karen Allen, Sean Richarson, Don Baker, Billy Matheny and John Radcliff.

Artists performing at the Showcase from 1 to 6 pm include Joseph Henry, Steve Zarate, Andy Tuck, Kathleen Coffee, Aaron Whited, RJ Cowdery, Bruce Dalzell, Billy Matheny, Ellery, Neil Coey, Mike Sheppard, Vic Fitzsimmons, Karen Allen, Sean Richardson, Michael Strasser, Chase Brady and Don Baker. Their performances will be judged and the winner will also appear as an opening act for the evening concert.Two workshops will also take place at The Galley. “How To Write A Song in 30 Days!” will be presented by John Radcliffe of Songpull from 1:30 to 2:30 pm and “How I Became A Full Time Musician” with Todd Burge will be from 3 to 4 pm.

 

Tours of the Colony Theatre will be given at 7:00 pm. Jason Wilber will perform in concert at 8 pm at the Mid-Ohio Valley Theatre across from the Colony. Tickets to the Wilber concert are $10 and can be purchased at all Peoples News locations ( Marietta, Belpre, Parkersburg and Vienna) and the Hippodrome/Colony Historical Theatre Association (HCHTA) office (373-0894),
